Grand Bahamas

Grand Bahama is one of the northernmost of the islands of the Bahamas, and the closest major island to the United States, lying just 55 mi (90 km) off the coast of the state of Florida.

Grand Bahama, the second most visited and fourth largest island in the archipelago, is home to Freeport, with its 10-acre International Bazaar, golf courses, casinos and mega-resorts. While not as ritzy as Paradise Island, Freeport/Lucaya is a far more affordable and offers nearly identical amenities.

With its impressive combination of ecological wonders and manmade attractions, Grand Bahama Island generously offers something for everyone, including two or three vacations in one. The challenge is deciding which to try first.

Ninety-six miles long, Grand Bahama boasts notable landscaping, both above and below the water. The Garden of the Groves nurtures more than 10,000 plants in its 12 acres. It was named for Wallace and Georgette Groves, who donated the park to the island. Underwater attractions are also plentiful, with several dive centers and the chance to swim with dolphins.
